Unfortunately, pumpkin spice isn’t always so nice. For the past few months, I’ve been blindly loading my Starbucks Gold Card and buying drinks (very) often, purposefully avoiding the knowledge of exactly how much I’ve been spending. It was a delicious habit I just did not want to give up. For the purpose of my goal this month (breaking my caffeine addiction) I decided to do a little research and figure out exactly how much I had been spending at my favorite coffee shop, mostly on those amazing Pumpkin Spice Lattes! I hoped the number would help motivate me to drop the habit and realize how much more I could be saving. What I didn’t expect was how large that number actually was!
$344.24 is how much I spent at Starbucks in December. That’s one month people. That’s nearly 2 car payments, or 1.5 weeks of child care, or 1/4 our rent, or whatever other comparison you’d like to make. Now granted, maybe a handful of those drinks were for people at work who reimbursed me, but STILL. $300+ a month on flavored coffee is not something I want to continue wasting my money on. Not only that, but I really hate feeling dependent on a drink. I don’t want to have to have my morning coffee in order to function throughout the day, or not get killer headaches that evening. I want to wake up and feel energized without addictive drugs coursing through my veins!
Now when I’m craving that sweet pumpkin creaminess, I remember a couple things: 1) How ridiculously expensive it is, and how that money could be going towards so many better things, and 2) Today I am becoming the person I want to be. And the person I want to be does not rely on coffee to have a great day.
Day 3: No coffee
