Ok so what could possibly be better than bananas and chocolate?? Pretty much nothing. My favorite healthy smoothie is a Banana Chocolate Smoothie, particularly the Chocolate Vivanno Smoothie from Starbucks. But, I hate paying $5 a pop for it! So I figured I needed to learn out how to make it myself. I never have much luck with making homemade Starbucks coffee drinks, but I figure a banana smoothie couldn’t be too hard. Right I was! I got the original recipe here and made some modifications to it. It’s super simple, healthy, and you can modify it so easily depending on how many calories you want and the texture and taste you prefer. If you make it with 1 medium sized banana, it’s about 275 calories. Add another banana to make a bigger shake, or have a toasted english muffin, and you’re all set with a super quick, easy and healthy breakfast!
Banana Chocolate Smoothie Recipe
1 cup ice
1 – 2 bananas, depending on the size
1/2 cup skim milk
1 scoop protein powder
1 tablespoon cocoa powder, unsweetened
2 teaspoons honey
Place ice and bananas at the bottom of the blender and everything else on top. Blend until smooth.
Tip: The original recipe calls for 1/2 a frozen banana, which means you probably wouldn’t need the ice. I never plan this far enough in advance to freeze a banana, so I substitute and it’s delicious! Also I like mine thick, so I add less milk than is recommended.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to snap a picture of the smoothie after it was made. It was gone in about two point five seconds. I’ve also thought of adding peanut butter. Let me know if any of you try it and if you made any modifications, and how it turned out!
