Last weekend we celebrated Logan’s 3rd birthday. I cannot believe how quickly time has flown. Is he seriously 3 already?? 3 is much closer to 5 than it is to 0. That may seem like an extremely obvious statement, but these are things that hit you as your kids get older. I can handle age 3. I don’t know how I’m going to handle age 5! Age 5 means starting school! It means time away from home without me there. It means new friends, school lunches, recess and homework. It means a whole new level of independence.
Thankfully, I just have a 3 year old for now. But boy, is he working on his independence! When he wakes up in the morning he gets dressed completely by himself with the clothes we picked out the night before, then goes into the bathroom and brushes his teeth. Some days though, he decides to come straight to my bed and snuggle with me for a few minutes. Those times are my favorite. He asks the most simple, yet thought provoking questions. He’s learning to climb the big kid parts of the playground at church. He shares his toys and shows such touching compassion. He can put on his own diaper at night (which takes some talent). He can shoot a water gun and run super fast and eat his entire meal without getting a single speck of food on his hands! He makes jokes! He can count to 12 and sing entire songs by himself. He can open his own bananas and buckle himself into his car seat.
Basically, my handsome little guy is turning into a handsome not-so-little guy. It is one of the most rewarding experiences to watch him learn and grow and discover. We teach him so much and he teaches us even more. David and I are so blessed to have him in our lives and we can’t wait to see what this next year brings!
